Famous Chains/Big Names don't equal serving everyone....

I don't normally rant twice in one day but this one bothered me due to some friends I have. When we hang out and go out to eat there are always going to be some disagreements sure, maybe Indian food makes your stomach hurt or you had a few bad times at a local Denny's(http://1stwr.blogspot.com/2013/02/dennys-restaurant.html)

My point being that today a few of us went to see Man of Steel http://hmmadnessmovies.blogspot.com/2013/06/man-of-steel.html and afterwords we wanted to eat as it was over 2 hours and none of us had eaten before. As Baby A's was right across the road we headed there first, we took our seats and my friend Phineas asked about Vegetarian/Vegan, and NOTHING on their whole menu could be made Vegan...

So we left, we did a search for local places then P used Laughing Cow or Happy Cow which is an app or website that allows you to find Vegan/Vegetarian places, most of the places the local app pulled up didn't apply...We got something called TacoDeli and we went there, only to find out it CLOSES AT 3!

P said there were lots of places that cater to Vegans but seriously this is kind of silly, Austin is a cool town and as Shana keeps telling me a town that knows more about health and gluten and Vegan's then anywhere she has lived, her customers at Walgreen's are more knowledgable then any place she has lived before, yet major chains can't get their act together. Vegan is a popular choice and Vegetarian has been for way longer. These are not new things that just popped up.

Everyone should be allowed to eat when we go to a major name or a brand. I am excluding if you market on a certain item. A Burger Bar is not what I am aiming at here but overall you should be able to at least have a few Vegan choices when you go out to your favorite restaurant, Hell Taco Bell has a few Vegetarian/ almost Vegan items you can choose for and its fast food.

Like most things I was more upset over this then the people it affects but it annoys me to see things like this. I find it really lame that either you can't get it or the ones that serve it close early even on THE WEEKENDS. We settled on Kerby Lane which is good but we were in the Gateway/Arboretum area which should have more choices altogether.

I know this is just me but Vegan is a popular and growing choice, some due to not wanting meat, some due to how thats done, some due to health, some do to having to go full vegan. But it doesn't even matter why, the point its popular places and well known chains need to get on the ball and met the requirments of the people out there or be left behind.

Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority

Capitol Metro or Cap Met, man o man where to start...it runs buses, paratransits, and the Metrorail for most of Austin and  suburbs in Travis and Williamson.  This was voted in back in 1985 so they have had many years to improve or get worse.

I won't say they have not improved in some ways, more routes, wider area, the rail is fast but they had their first passenger/bus fatality in 2012, a long time without one but it happened at a time when they are expanding and have been called under the microscope for using buses well past their prime and ones that are unsafe.

They were/are paid out of sales tax but that has been a up and down thing overall and I won't get into all the details. Thats not really my point here, they get money for sales plus they charge people who ride. From October 1989 to December 1990 they tried to increase ridership by allowing all rides to be free. This plus increased route areas worked but drivers and some passengers complained about the type of riders this was attracting and the drivers voted this away quickly in 1991.

In 1997 Cap Metro came under fire from a string of Texas Legislature and FBI investigations that uncovered a dysfunctional organization beset by poor management. As a result, the Legislature subsequently overhauled Capital Metro and its the board of directors in an attempt to make the transit authority both more effective and transparent ahead of a performance review by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.  The FBI found glaring errors and that over $118,000 spent on "food, parties, and presents for employees. This is out of the taxes the people of Austin were paying. The FBI was quoted at the time as saying  "We have never, in all of the performance reviews we have conducted, seen an agency with such a lack of accountability.

This of course all speaks pretty poorly of Cap Metro in general. The problem today is with all the money they have made but pissed away or lost in mismangement they keep expanding and using crappy busses and CANNOT get things meshed up. I have the Rail drop me off at the Lake line stop 10 mins. after the bus I needed left and another was not due for an HOUR! A bus did stop in, drop someone off and put up an out of service sign like a jerk. They had a bus there but you were NOT allowed to ride it and ha ha you had to wait now. We don't care, we are Cap Metro, what else are you going to do...

This is not my first issue with them, and given that there is not much else for public use no doubt it won't be my last but maybe this one, unlike some places will work on its flaws, try and fix them for its own good and to get more ridership and therefore money.

2010 Actual Budget

Freight Rail $11.77 M

Price Matching Target!

So on Saturday as part of Shana's birthday month we visited Target to try and find some shelves or DVD holders.  Striking out there we checked out Board Games, something we all love to do around our house.

Now walking through Home, Electronics, Furniture, and Toys we keep seeing signs saying we match MOST local competitors, some online stores and Target.com.  So I just killing time used my smart pricing app to compare the board game Smart Ass and the first option was Target.com. They had the game at the store for 23.00 dollars and Target.com had it for 16.00 bucks, so just to be sure even though the signs were VERY clear I asked a sales person named Lucus.

No longer true but...

He said at first no, but when I showed him the sign he said oh they brought it back. He was on a leave of absence for about a year.  He had just returned and didn't know, I then asked if they would give me any issues at the check out and he said if they do by some chance guest services would help.

So after all of this we headed to check out with the game and some butter knives as we needed them. There was a sign right there at the Check out line saying the same price match thing, The cashier rang us up and called over a manager, the manager then explained the regular checkout's couldn't do it, only guest services. Why even have these signs up everywhere and at check out if no one can do it? The cashier suspends our order and sends us to wait in yet another line at guest services.

It only has one cashier at first, a second one finally shows up and helps us, we tell her, show her the website. She asks the other person there how to do it, She in turns asks me if I have it called up, I did and showed her. But was that it? NO OF COURSE NOT. She pulls out an Ipad and looks it up herself like I hacked into Target.com and changed it. After we wait for that to come up and it does they finally type in the codes to change the price.

Check it out

Much like the Toys R Us crap I have to wonder where the HELL did customer service go. You took time to post all these signs, I called up your website Target and even then you made it hard and didn't believe me and have to call it up on a separate device. Really? Like my phone is programmed to lie about your OWN website. Overall it was a long pointless waste of my time and makes me want to shop less at Target. I do know EVERY time I go now I will just scan EVERYTHING and go straight to Guest Services(which it is called but it sucks at) and just take money away from the store when I can.
