Elite Towing and Recovery/KYMCO Inc.

Ah, where to start, this one is not for me. This is for some friends who got totally fucked over and screwed by this company.  http://elitetowingaustin.com/
That is their website, go and let them know how you feel. So what happened? Let me explain, a few friends who go to Anarchy Championship Wrestling among other indie shows, the ACW shows are at The Mohawk which has no handicap parking and they have a placard due to issues the female has that I am not going to explain as its her business but they have the placard and have permission from the owner of DeVille's next door to use their handicap spot.  While it was discovered later that DeVille has been taken as the owner didn't pay his bills/rent.

So without knowing this, Bree and David parked there, put up their normal sign on the windshield saying they have the owners permission and if there is an issue please call this cell phone and they give the number. Its never been a problem for years and years. So at the last show for ACW, The Lone Star Classic on November 17th they found out after the show the car had been towed by this company, Elite Towing, even with the placard and being in a handicap spot and a note. It was awful, the ACW family stepped up and Barry from ACW got them home.

They picked up their car the next day spending time and money getting it back but the hassle should never have happened. Its awful, and people should know to avoid this company and even better if you have the time let them know what you think of them. They pulled a shitty card and should never have touched a handicap car in a handicap spot. Simple. Leave it and even worse if you have a number you could call and confirm things. Stupid.  I hope they hear from people and lose some business soon.

We don't care about this symbol

First World Rants: Crappy Jobs/Fast Food

Crappy Jobs/Fast Food

So over the last few days there has been talk of fast food workers going on strike across America, protesting the wages they are paid. In some places it created things certain fast food places getting no business as workers protested outside the buildings. That happen to a Wendy's but other places were barely affected by this strike/protest/walkout.

They were saying they wanted 15 dollars an hour to work. That they didn't earn a living wage doing a job others won't or can't take. McDonalds of course spoke up saying such a raise would mean an increase in menu prices and laying off people to pay the ones that are left.  Other places such as Taco Bell and Wendy's refused to comment about the strikes.

While Obama and others are looking to raise the federal min. wage to 9.00 an hour but not the 15 people are asking.  Before you get ahead of me, my problem is not the asking for more money, though for most fast food people 15 bucks is a bit much. City by City or state by state cost of living is different, that should be factored in, as should what you do in fast food.

Its a job NO ONE wants and the turnover is very high. So should people that learn and stick with it make more, sure.

But here is my real issue. People with similar jobs or jobs they also consider crappy or jobs that no on asks for were just BASHING the fast food workers??!! I don't get this, were you upset they may get their way, that would just pave the way for you to ask the same at your jobs.

The Bouncer, The Sales Person, Retail, Waiters, Service Industry, and some construction/outside jobs should be on the same page.  I saw these jobs ranting about how dare Fast Food ask this much. A few that stood out is a bouncer saying that his job is not one people beg for, he deals with drunks, had his teeth knocked out, pushed, kicked out people and deals with assholes and stupid people. Okay, that sucks, agreed and you should be paid more. Retail, same you deal with stupid questions, asinine people and low wages, you should be on the same side.

Why argue with each other, we should be backing one another.  I get the hate in so much as why is fast food getting the attention, but they are the ones speaking up right now. Again do I believe 15 bucks an hour is a bit much? Yes. But we in the crap jobs deserve the right to have cost of living and maybe a bit more for dealing with stupid day in and out.

I mean in fast food most of the people who whine and bitch have correct orders 99 percent of the time and you don't even have to leave your car you lazy whiny bastard. The Bouncer keeps out the people that the patrons having fun wouldn't want to deal with. So forth and so so on.

So really my point is, stop fighting and bitching about one another and work together. People who feel they have crappy jobs shouldn't fight each other, we should work towards getting better pay and/or benefits.

Famous Chains/Big Names don't equal serving everyone....

I don't normally rant twice in one day but this one bothered me due to some friends I have. When we hang out and go out to eat there are always going to be some disagreements sure, maybe Indian food makes your stomach hurt or you had a few bad times at a local Denny's(http://1stwr.blogspot.com/2013/02/dennys-restaurant.html)

My point being that today a few of us went to see Man of Steel http://hmmadnessmovies.blogspot.com/2013/06/man-of-steel.html and afterwords we wanted to eat as it was over 2 hours and none of us had eaten before. As Baby A's was right across the road we headed there first, we took our seats and my friend Phineas asked about Vegetarian/Vegan, and NOTHING on their whole menu could be made Vegan...

So we left, we did a search for local places then P used Laughing Cow or Happy Cow which is an app or website that allows you to find Vegan/Vegetarian places, most of the places the local app pulled up didn't apply...We got something called TacoDeli and we went there, only to find out it CLOSES AT 3!

P said there were lots of places that cater to Vegans but seriously this is kind of silly, Austin is a cool town and as Shana keeps telling me a town that knows more about health and gluten and Vegan's then anywhere she has lived, her customers at Walgreen's are more knowledgable then any place she has lived before, yet major chains can't get their act together. Vegan is a popular choice and Vegetarian has been for way longer. These are not new things that just popped up.

Everyone should be allowed to eat when we go to a major name or a brand. I am excluding if you market on a certain item. A Burger Bar is not what I am aiming at here but overall you should be able to at least have a few Vegan choices when you go out to your favorite restaurant, Hell Taco Bell has a few Vegetarian/ almost Vegan items you can choose for and its fast food.

Like most things I was more upset over this then the people it affects but it annoys me to see things like this. I find it really lame that either you can't get it or the ones that serve it close early even on THE WEEKENDS. We settled on Kerby Lane which is good but we were in the Gateway/Arboretum area which should have more choices altogether.

I know this is just me but Vegan is a popular and growing choice, some due to not wanting meat, some due to how thats done, some due to health, some do to having to go full vegan. But it doesn't even matter why, the point its popular places and well known chains need to get on the ball and met the requirments of the people out there or be left behind.

Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority

Capitol Metro or Cap Met, man o man where to start...it runs buses, paratransits, and the Metrorail for most of Austin and  suburbs in Travis and Williamson.  This was voted in back in 1985 so they have had many years to improve or get worse.

I won't say they have not improved in some ways, more routes, wider area, the rail is fast but they had their first passenger/bus fatality in 2012, a long time without one but it happened at a time when they are expanding and have been called under the microscope for using buses well past their prime and ones that are unsafe.

They were/are paid out of sales tax but that has been a up and down thing overall and I won't get into all the details. Thats not really my point here, they get money for sales plus they charge people who ride. From October 1989 to December 1990 they tried to increase ridership by allowing all rides to be free. This plus increased route areas worked but drivers and some passengers complained about the type of riders this was attracting and the drivers voted this away quickly in 1991.

In 1997 Cap Metro came under fire from a string of Texas Legislature and FBI investigations that uncovered a dysfunctional organization beset by poor management. As a result, the Legislature subsequently overhauled Capital Metro and its the board of directors in an attempt to make the transit authority both more effective and transparent ahead of a performance review by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.  The FBI found glaring errors and that over $118,000 spent on "food, parties, and presents for employees. This is out of the taxes the people of Austin were paying. The FBI was quoted at the time as saying  "We have never, in all of the performance reviews we have conducted, seen an agency with such a lack of accountability.

This of course all speaks pretty poorly of Cap Metro in general. The problem today is with all the money they have made but pissed away or lost in mismangement they keep expanding and using crappy busses and CANNOT get things meshed up. I have the Rail drop me off at the Lake line stop 10 mins. after the bus I needed left and another was not due for an HOUR! A bus did stop in, drop someone off and put up an out of service sign like a jerk. They had a bus there but you were NOT allowed to ride it and ha ha you had to wait now. We don't care, we are Cap Metro, what else are you going to do...

This is not my first issue with them, and given that there is not much else for public use no doubt it won't be my last but maybe this one, unlike some places will work on its flaws, try and fix them for its own good and to get more ridership and therefore money.

2010 Actual Budget
Operating Revenues $28.04 M
Passenger Fares $9 M
Contract Fares $6.76 M
MetroRail $495 K
Freight Rail $11.77 M
Operating Expenses $164.70 M
Non-Operating Revenues $178.23 M
Build Central Texas Program $3.7 M
Change in Net Assets $9.36 M

First World Rants: Price Matching Target!

Price Matching Target!

So on Saturday as part of Shana's birthday month we visited Target to try and find some shelves or DVD holders.  Striking out there we checked out Board Games, something we all love to do around our house.

Now walking through Home, Electronics, Furniture, and Toys we keep seeing signs saying we match MOST local competitors, some online stores and Target.com.  So I just killing time used my smart pricing app to compare the board game Smart Ass and the first option was Target.com. They had the game at the store for 23.00 dollars and Target.com had it for 16.00 bucks, so just to be sure even though the signs were VERY clear I asked a sales person named Lucus.

No longer true but...

He said at first no, but when I showed him the sign he said oh they brought it back. He was on a leave of absence for about a year.  He had just returned and didn't know, I then asked if they would give me any issues at the check out and he said if they do by some chance guest services would help.

So after all of this we headed to check out with the game and some butter knives as we needed them. There was a sign right there at the Check out line saying the same price match thing, The cashier rang us up and called over a manager, the manager then explained the regular checkout's couldn't do it, only guest services. Why even have these signs up everywhere and at check out if no one can do it? The cashier suspends our order and sends us to wait in yet another line at guest services.

It only has one cashier at first, a second one finally shows up and helps us, we tell her, show her the website. She asks the other person there how to do it, She in turns asks me if I have it called up, I did and showed her. But was that it? NO OF COURSE NOT. She pulls out an Ipad and looks it up herself like I hacked into Target.com and changed it. After we wait for that to come up and it does they finally type in the codes to change the price.

Check it out

Much like the Toys R Us crap I have to wonder where the HELL did customer service go. You took time to post all these signs, I called up your website Target and even then you made it hard and didn't believe me and have to call it up on a separate device. Really? Like my phone is programmed to lie about your OWN website. Overall it was a long pointless waste of my time and makes me want to shop less at Target. I do know EVERY time I go now I will just scan EVERYTHING and go straight to Guest Services(which it is called but it sucks at) and just take money away from the store when I can.

Toys "R" Us

I have to admit this one will be a joy for me. I had no idea Toys R Us had fallen this far...I am a former employee of this company and worked back when Furby came out the first time.

What a nightmare, soccer moms pushing and shoving, people knowing that its limit one per guest would bring neighbors kids or grandchildren so they could all grab one of their own. Each section had a color, such as Blue was action figures and toys for male children, Pink: Female, etc.  We had two people at customer service and one in each section.

So Sunday, February 23, 2013 (2/23/2013) Shana and I walked into the Toys R Us on Capitol of Texas highway to try and find a Godzilla figure for a friends birthday. The sign right by the entrance says they price match, just happened to notice out of the corner of my eye.

So we head in and find our way to the action figures and such. We couldn't find a Godzilla figure at first, but one helpful guy helped us find the last one, then we found a ninja sword, we scanned it with the price app and I asked if they would price match, the first guy said only off a website, so I called up the website, then he said wait only our website then shrugged when I asked what that meant, that they compete with themselves? He didn't know and went and got a manager who was even more unhelpful.

He said it had to be an ad but only from Toys R Us or something...I didn't get it and said this thing is like 3 bucks less right over at Target and your unwilling to match even though your sign says so? He said he was sorry and I said no your not, you just would rather give up business over 3 bucks. I will never return to Toys R Us as long as I live.

No one was helpful past finding one item. The other two guys and even the manager were all rude and very unhelpful. They seemed like I was bothering them, guess that was not their job or something.

I hope in this day and age when I can get the same toys cheaper at Target and Walmart or online I hope Toys R Us fails something awful and has only its self to blame.

Denny's Restaurant

This Rant Brought To You By:

Denny's Restaurant and Audra Haywood. So reading over Facebook recently a friend of mine posted this, Dear Denny's on 183/620
I ordered 3 times and every time you came back and said I'm sorry we don't have that..... Then the manager came over to see and cough by my infant and not apologize then the food tasted horrid......thanks so much never returning Audra

This would be the Denny's at 10930 Lakeline Mall Drive, phone number(512) 401-0628.  The reason I decided to rant about this one is its not the first time I have heard of issues there or had them myself.

That all sounds about Denny's Speed

The last two times Shana and I visited this Denny's (which were the Last two times as well) they were out of Dr. Pepper both times which is what I drink, and the first of the two times they were out of what I ordered and had to get something else, the second visit, still no Dr. Pepper( and this was a good month later) and two things I ordered were not there, one being a basic Chicken Strip meal....

Before Shana had moved here, I had stopped going to this Denny's has it had been out of Dr. Pepper twice before and then out of FRIES, FRIES???!!! I left that time and went to IHOP.

I understand that sometimes things happen that one can not control but just looking at the Dr. Pepper, it runs out alot, must sell quite a bit or the employees drink it all day, either way it shows you should be ordering more of it, not less. Common sense, the food its self is average but its Denny's so thats to be expected.
Under that note I had a customer at my place of business that worked for Denny's telling me that his and a few of his friends paychecks didn't clear on top of everything. That is a bad bad sign for any business and not one you want to hear.

Which the many places you can go, even just overnight, You have IHOP, Waffle House, Kerby Lane, Star Seeds, and while not every place is open all night, there are many that are open late downtown with many options, Denny's really should be more careful. People can spend their money anywhere and as they have less they will be more and more choosy.

Final Thoughts:

I know everyone has their own thoughts and feelings but this rant was brought up due to someone elses bad time at Denny's. I know this won't change minds overall but maybe others who have had a bad time there will point out that maybe this is not the place to go expect for...

Horror Remix/Alamo Drafthouse

Horror Remix: What Was It?

Horror Remix is All Killer, No Filler, its Obscure horror classics powerpacked into 2 hour screenings. Edward Ej Anttila works hard on putting them together and its a labor of love, it would have to be all the work thats put into it.  What he does is takes obscure and/or bad horror classics and cuts them down. So say an 80 min. movie cuts down to 25 mins.  He leaves in the kills, the nudity and just enough plot to understand it, if it has a understood plot.

Each Remix has a theme, Zombies, Love, Roadkill, where two to three movies are put up, after each cut movie two puppets, Cheesecake and Thunderclap, a wizard and a bat. They come out and make jokes about the movie which we just watched.  Its pretty funny and the movies themselves are usually so wierd and silly they almost don't need help.

There is always "Leftover Meat" movies that didn't quite make the cut with just scenes from them. They play all over in various city's and nights, her in Austin, Texas they play at the Almao Drafthouse at 10 pm on Wednesday, its free unless you want to reserve a seat, then its 5.00 bucks, which can be used as a voucher towards your food so even then its "free". Unless you had no plans to drink or eat.

What The Horror Remix is now:

So in the start the horror remix was a blast, I had friends who came with me and there was this group of guys, some of who lived her in Austin, some in Dallas, some in San Antoine. All because Austin and the Drafthouse was the city and place to be. All of us who went to the Drafthouse shared in a love of bad horror movies and loved the Remix, we drank, we ate, we joked. When nudity was shown we had one woman who always yelled BOOBIES! It was some of the most fun I have every had. Its the way Austin should be, hell even Esther's Follies has you participte some.  As best as I can figure all this changed at one show...This one guy who I have never seen before, so not a regular, not one of us there at every remix spending money and paying Drafthouse and tipping waitstaff, stood up and yelled "EVERYONE NEEDS TO SHUT THE FUCK UP". The very next show we couldn't talk.

This is where it becomes Bullshit.  We had always had fun, bonded over bad movies, some of us had been to all or most of the remixes, buying drinks, bringing in new people saying how much fun it was. Then it all changed, and the drafthouse and remix were Never the same. When you pay for a new movie I agree talking and tweeting are super annoying and should be stopped but an event like this, when they have Quote-A-Longs and Sing-a-Longs and tweet humor you single us out.  These are not full movies, or even good movies to most people.

Half the reason us regulars came to The Remixes is because we loved laughing and joking and drinking. Now they lost that crowd that used to come, My old school Remix friends won't return and I won't bother bringing new ones as its no longer fun, I try to go when I can but each time I get reminded why I dislike it now.

Final Thoughts:

While I love the idea behind the Horror Remix still and they are still funny and well done, Edward Ej Anttila works hard and I can't stress that enough, my problem is not with him or even Horror Remix, its with Alamo Drafthouse though I wish Edward could do something about it, maybe if he knows there are many who are unhappy with how the Drafthouse is using his stuff who knows maybe he can.

The last one, Love, had the perfect example, in Austin as the announcer was speaking he asked how everyone was and people were too worried or scared to even speak then or clap until he said you could, it was okay..thats sad and stupid. How unfun does that sound?  They lose people everytime I go, its less people then the time before and who knows we may lose it one day.

I will still go as I enjoy the movies but I don't think I will be speaking up about it anymore or giving money to the drafthouse.
